Spanish Pavilion Expo 2010

05May10

/ project in collaboration with EMBT Miralles Tagliabue Arquitectos Barcelona

With the inauguration of the World Expo in Shanghai the Spanish Pavilion opened its doors to the public. At the first day more than 22.000 visitors came to see and enter the giant basket. Outstanding and impressive are the wicker components which were placed along cables on top of the steel structure. They form a semi-transparent facade with special light effects on the inside. Outside they are responsible for that unique appearance of the pavilion. All panels have been fabricated traditionally by Chinese wicker craftsmanship.

Besides that, take a look inside of  the most recent publication of “AV proyectos #36” (Arquitectura Viva).

Futher pictures from Shanghai will follow soon 🙂
